Ronald Reagan exploited the surgeon who operated on him, after the failed assassina-
tion attempt of the president in 1981. It was intimidating braggadocio, reminiscent of
a Rush Limbaugh rant. Reagan's story was much like the falsehoods told about the se-
verely traumatized Jessica Lynch. She was the Iraqi veteran whose logistics team
drove their vehicles through a Iraqi town, only to be ambushed.
Reagan made false-light statements about Dr. Giordano, meant to intimidate Americans
who used social service programs or the Pell Grant program ... or even the watered-
down version of the GI Bill.
Reagan stated that Dr. Giordano only became the head of the trauma unit at George
Washington University Hospital, because the surgeon had a father and grandfather
who didn't rely on social service programs. Firstly, what did Dr. Giordano's father
and grandfather have to do with his medical career? Secondly, Reagan's claim was
very suspicious, being that, during the Great Depression and shortly thereafter, there
were a lot of government programs, ranging from the surplus flour allotments to the
Tennessee Valley Project to the often-used GI Bill. Thirdly, Doctor Giordano, the
surgeon of Italian descent, categorically let the public know that his education was
partly funded by low-interest government loans. He also stated that his medical ex-
pertise came from experience gotten through "generous federal funding for bio-
medical research." In fact, a news report expressly stated:
DR. GIORDANO made it clear that he supports the civil rights legislation
that Reagan has been undermining, because those laws have aided Italian-
Americans and other ethnic and racial groups by making discrimination not
only illegal but also socially unacceptable.
Reagan gets away with dishonest propaganda, because he can commandeer
the networks, where vast millions hear his self-serving tales. But, nobody
ever sees Dr. Giordano on television telling the truth. In fact, few of the
lords of American press will open their columns, to let Giordano even
gently rebuke a president who uses his name in disgusting demagoguery.
... Reagan perpetuated a political fraud, but the polls indicate that it is
winning politics.

Like George Bush, Ronald Reagan was re-elected on an ongoing lie. He made it ap-
pear that the common American was being robbed by lazy social service bums who
got Pell Grants and the such. He presented himself as the one who would save the
American citizenry from the lazy thieves. Well, Chicken Hawk Reagan let Americans
get robbed by a military industrial complex who sold $22 to $32 hammers to the gov-
ernment for $640 each. Reagan lied, in order to perpetuate the theft of the taxpayer,
via price gouging and out-of-control military spending (for the 1980s)..
